Get ready, Liverpool: your favourite Fab Four tribute band is back in town, and they’re going bigger than ever.
On Saturday, 1st November 2025, the Mersey Beatles will take over the M&S Bank Arena for what promises to be a landmark night of nostalgia, music, and Scouse pride.
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Help! and Rubber Soul, plus the revolutionary Shea Stadium gig that changed live music forever, this homecoming show promises to be a full-blown Beatles experience.
Audiences can expect a full-scale production featuring songs from every chapter of the Beatles’ career, from the mop-top madness of the early days to the psychedelic swirl of the later albums. All performed with era-authentic instruments and costumes.
Who are the Mersey Beatles?
Formed in 1999, the group comprises four childhood friends: Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Brian Ambrose (Ringo), and Craig McGown (George).
If you’re not from Liverpool or you’re not a die-hard Beatles fan, you might think this is just another tribute to the greatest band of all time. But that’s where you’d be wrong. The lads are something else entirely.
Unlike many tribute acts, the Mersey Beatles focus on replicating the sound and energy of The Beatles rather than their appearance. That’s why they have a “fifth Beatle,” Tony Cook, who plays keyboards during their shows.
Tony Cook’s role as the “fifth Beatle” is pivotal in authentically recreating the full spectrum of the Beatles’ music.
While the original Beatles were a four-piece band, their later studio recordings incorporated a range of instruments and orchestral arrangements that extended beyond the capabilities of a quartet.
Cook, as the group’s keyboardist and percussionist, enables the Mersey Beatles to perform these complex pieces live, capturing the essence of songs from albums like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road.
From the Cavern to the World
It’s one thing to cover Beatles songs. It’s another to do it night after night in the very venue where it all began.
For over a decade, between 2002 and 2012, the Mersey Beatles were the resident band at Liverpool’s world-famous Cavern Club, the same underground stage where John, Paul, George, and Ringo played almost 300 times in the early ’60s.
That residency shaped the band’s identity and sound. Playing for local crowds with a deep-rooted love for the Beatles meant there was no room for shortcuts or sloppy tributes.
The Mersey Beatles built their reputation on attention to detail, a genuine love for the music, and a live performance that captured the energy of the original band without resorting to caricature.
Since then, they’ve taken that legacy far beyond Mathew Street. With tours across more than 20 countries, the Mersey Beatles have brought Liverpool’s music heritage to audiences around the globe.
